About Dean
I am a “retired” pastor. Nancy is my wife, friend, and partner in ministry. We are well into our fifth decade of marriage. I am the father of three adult children (one son and two daughters) of whom I am proud. I am an Air Force veteran who served 5 ½ years as a B-52 navigator. I am a graduate of Oklahoma State University (BS), Western Seminary (MDiv), and Gordan-Conwell Seminary (DMin). Nancy and I live on Puget Sound in Grapeview, WA. We are active members of North Mason Bible Church in Belfair, WA where I serve as an elder.
Most important, I am an object of God’s grace. In Christ, God rescued me from sin and death when I was 14. I stand in awe of his persistent mercy. For seven years I resisted God’s call to full-time ministry. In spite of my obstinance, he refused to kick me to the curb. By his mercy, I am the founding pastor of Intermountain Baptist Church in Taylorsville, Utah where we ministered for 32 years. Nancy and I have experienced no greater privilege than that of growing up together in Christ with our Utah church family. We continue to rejoice as we watch the church impact the community under the leadership of their second pastor—a young man, passionate for Christ—who grew up in the church.
I am the author of Nobody’s Perfect But You Have to Be: The Power of Personal Integrity in Effective Preaching (Baker Books, 2005). I have written for ChurchLeaders.com; SermonCentral.com; and Preaching Magazine.
